Tristan’s December blog-ethical and principles of engineering

Throughout December I decided to explore the ethical and principles of engineering. The four fundamentals for this that are set by the Royal Academy of Engineering are law and health and safety, this includes ensuring the work is lawful and justified, accuracy and rigor, such as always acting with care and competence, leadership and communication, by being objective and truthful in any statement made, and honesty and integrity, acting in a reliable and trustworthy manner. I will be obeying this by following the rules of conduct set by the IET, such as not taking on any tasks that I am not confident or competent in carrying out. I will also keep my knowledge and skills as up to date as much as possible through development and aim to maintain it in the future working life. Another useful source I found was the “Engineering ethics in practice: a guide for engineers”, I chose this source as it gives real life possible scenarios where engineering ethics is important, allowing me to get a better insight as to how this is applied in the field of engineering,
