PCB design

The first step of designing our PCB we had to use a software called Proteus it helps aid electrical designs with schematic capture, simulation and most important for us PCB designs. the photo to the left shows the schematic we had to follow in order to achieve are design. in able to achieve a understanding one of the technicians gave us a video that would help.

Are first PCB design is on the right this fallowed the schematic, this was then submitted for assessment and scored perfect. one of the issues for us as a team was the fact that we wanted to create back Ir as well as ultra sonic on the side and in order to be able to complete these we would have to make are original design.

In this new design you can see that we have made are original one smaller and then to get the back IR sensors we flip the design as this would work thanks to the design being the same as for the ultra sensors we added a to 4 ports on the left, right hand side with each Vcc running from r15 on each side and ground from j2 with the trigger for each connected together .

the next stage was to use >>>> machine this was done in a dark room so it makes it easier to see the holes on the screen. this was a foot pedal that once you had placed you whole in the correct part of the scope you would press and it would drill your hole for you. in this room ear protection and safety glasses must be used due to the noise of the machine and swarf that may come off.

once we got are design are job was to now cut it using a guillotine as are bored came in square and to make it fit nice on are micro mouse. once achieved to get it to the correct measurement a sander was used to sand the board to make it nice a round shape.

The final part of are design was to now solder are boarded this involves attaching our electronic components to the board using solder what creates electrical connections for the circuit. in order to make nice soldering it is ideal to clean the part and when carrying out this task the use of a multi meter was key to make sure there was conductivity in the board.
