Ethics and Sustainability

Athby’s Personal Statement of Commitment to Ethical Principles

After reading the statement of ethical principles issued in 2005 by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Engineering Council, I will do my best to commit to these principles.

In my opinion, honesty and integrity is the most important section. As future professional engineers and students working together on a project, we should be able to trust each other, and each team member should stick to their roles and carry their weight. As engineers, we should learn how to interact respectfully with our colleagues and respect their privacy, and confidentiality. We should avoid deception and copying other people’s work to avoid misconduct.

An Engineer shouldn’t just master the fundamentals of mathematics, but also the commitment of ethics. The (RAE) Royal Academy of engineering and the Engineering council have made a statement of ethical principles for engineering. The rule gives good examples of how an engineer should conduct to these rules.
For this module EG-252 we will be creating a microhouse in a group of four. This means that the important ethics will apply. By working in a group/team of four the basic ethics of great communication, leadership, Honesty and integrity.

Throughout all branches of engineering, ethics is an important topic that must always be considered and kept in mind. The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and Engineering Council (EC) have created a statement of ethical principles for engineers. The main relevant points for creating the micro mouse are Honesty, Integrity, Leadership and Communication. These are all important parts of ethics since I must be honest with my work making sure to give credit where it is due to those who deserve it and acknowledge when problems arise and actively try to fix them. Also, as the team leader I must be clear to my team as well as others about expectations making sure not to mislead anyone and understand the impacts of one’s actions.
