Ridhwaan’s Commitment to Ethics and Principals

Engineers must master both technical skills and ethical responsibility. The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and Engineering Council (EC) provide ethical guidelines to ensure professional integrity. These guidelines form the foundation for ethical decision-making in engineering and ensure that professionals uphold public trust.

Our four-person team is constructing a micro mouse for EG-252, where effective communication, leadership, honesty, and integrity are essential to succeed. Contributing to the project, working well with others, and making sure that everything runs smoothly with my peers are all my responsibilities as a team member. The Ethical Principles of the RAE and EC offer a foundation for upholding professional behaviour during the project. To guarantee the greatest results and uphold safety standards, engineers should only take on jobs that fall within their area of expertise, according to the IET’s ethical guide. This is especially important to our project since a more efficient workflow results from each team member feeling secure in their designated roles. Furthermore, ethical teamwork requires respecting intellectual property rights, a principle outlined by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) to ensure originality and fairness in design.

I prioritize honesty and integrity, ensuring transparency and respect for privacy. This aligns with the Harvard Business School’s insights on engineering ethics, which stresses the importance of ethical choices in decision-making. Additionally, I will follow all laws, regulations, and safety standards, as highlighted by the Royal Academy of Engineering’s guidelines, to ensure professional responsibility. This project has reinforced the value of teamwork and ethical engineering. By adhering to these principles and incorporating ethical guidelines from professional institutions, we aim to create not just a functional micro mouse, but also learn what is required of an efficient and professional engineering team.
