Autonomous vehicle ethics – Blowing the whistle

Our experience with the micro mouse project has allowed us to better understand the challenges of working on larger projects, for instance, autonomous vehicles. These present many challenges not just technical ones but also ethical ones too, for instance, identifying design flaws that can harm users and pedestrians. As per IET guidelines, such concerns ought to be reported internally first to enable corrections prior to continuing production, maintaining the integrity of the company. In case of failure to address the issue appropriately, it is important to escalate the matter externally. As a whistleblower, it is important to give detailed information, and companies need to guarantee fair treatment since reporting concerns should not be punished, even if resolving the issue involves causes financial losses and lost time .
