At the beginning of this month, Mubarak, Rhys and I were complete strangers. But after only 4 sessions we have made significant progress towards our goal, we have learned a bit about each other, and we have a solid plan for the final deadline.
This month I have worked with Rhys with the circuit prototyping, though he deserves all of the credit for having completed it so quickly as my large programming workload and project planning only allowed me to chip in and troubleshoot when he hit a wall every so often.
I spent most of my time this month putting together and thinking about our project plan for this semester, along with intensely studying the functionality of the micromouse’s components and planning the respective low-level programming classes for each one. I have also spent some time quietly observing my teammates particular skill sets and where their strongest qualities lie.
I have never been a team leader before, I’m usually more of a worker bee, just ploughing on with my own task and not paying any mind to my peers. I don’t believe this to be a good working mindset in a team, and I am grateful for the interesting experience I am having so far as a team leader, and am learning how to balance being a team player with focusing on my own task. I think I am making good progress towards that so far, but I still definitely have more to improve.
