Blowing the Whistle – Isaiah Wong

The team, as members of the IET, are guided by principles emphasising public safety and ethical conduct. This includes following the IET’s guidance on whistles blowing, which involves reporting concerns about flawed designs, always putting public safety first.

As professionals, the team holds moral obligation to raise concerns about the flawed design, always prioritising the safety and well-being of the public over other considerations. By blowing the whistle, the team takes a stand for integrity and accountability, ensuring that potential risks are addressed before they escalate into tragedies. Ideally, the team believes companies should support whistleblowers, acknowledging their bravery in prioritising safety however, the reality may involve challenges. Whistleblowers could face backlash from their company for potentially damaging its reputation.

To conclude, before deciding to blow the whistle, the team would consider the imperative to act and the possible repercussions. Ultimately the decision should prioritise what’s best for everyone involved, including consumers, pedestrians and other communities.
