The majority of the engineering ethical standard comes from the statement of ethical principle which came out in 2005 and then revised 2017 by the Royal Academy of Engineering and the engineering principle.
It is important for engineers to follow the ethical principle as we must hold ourselves to a higher standard, with the urban and natural environment. If we do not hold ourselves to this standard we will ruin the condition of the urban environment making it not safe for the people we build to live in that area. Also making sure we handle the environmental degradation we do on our planet is vital so that we can have the coming generation a world where they can live in peace. I must also be careful with the life that I hold with every constructions and making sure that we build the devices that are safe to use and will not cause harm to the user. This very important to me as we need to be examples that we can create a better world and we do not need to sacrifice the environment or the safety of the user. I will make sure that I will reduce the emission we generate as an engineer while also make sure that the build environment is safe resulting in the making the people using them are safe for them to use. This is in my opinion crucial.
As an energy we must hold ourselves with honesty and integrity, we must be trustworthy so we can work to the best we can. We must also respect our work partners religion and belief as to prevent conflict but also to respect them. This is important as we need to show that we do not segregation and personally I would want my religion to be respected show I need to show that respect to other people no matter what. Also we must not accept bribery as to affect our works as we here to help the people we are creating and make the world a better place. We should not be afraid to report bad practise and wrong doing as result. This cannot be tolerated as if this person is making lives in danger it is our duty to protect and help those lives through our building or devices. Finally we need to declare conflict of interest as a if we have strong opinions on something we will not give 100% or do something we may regret later. I will be sure that i will respect different religion while also show respect for views that would contradict my belief
We still need to be able to know our knowledge of this subject and be able to make wise decisions about each of these areas, if we less confident in a field we need to make sure that we a supervised so we do not make massive mistake as result of our gap of knowledge. To make we are confident in our field we need to revise every now and then to make sure that we know what we are doing and not just forgetting the knowledge once we have used in a exam. This important as we will need this knowledge through out our carer and we never know when we may need it. We must be able to evaluate, magnify and quantify risks to be able to keep safety for the people we build it for. This shows that we know dangers and if it not too dangerous to be able to achieve it as we may also mislead other to thinking it is safe. This is important as i will not want to endanger anyone with the work that I have done and I would want to have my knowledge constantly checked to open as many possibilities I can in the future.
As engineers we must be able promote ourselves and demonstrate leadership and to hold ourselves higher standards by being respectful to other people as well as being and kind to them. We also challenge codes which we do not agree as if we do not speak out about codes how will be able to make a change to the world. It also important that we expand public awareness showing that we have multiple available which becomes very important in this age as we need to show that there is hope and we have ways of mitigating environmental damage. If we also not truthful with our statement then we can never hold ourselves to being trustworthy and we are letting the people and ourselves down. These are important and for me we need to demonstrate that we can have hope and we are not afraid to call out for change. I need to be able to stand up for change as if I view something which I think is wrong, I need to call it out as a result.
