Engineering responsibilities include, honesty responsibility and teamwork. The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and the Engineering Council (EC) created the Statement of Ethical Principles to guide the engineering community with correct standards when working. The guidelines make sure engineers are fair, safe and proffesional. In EG-252, our team project is to design and build a micromouse. Being the technician of the team, my job role takes up the technical aspects of building the micromouse, this means making sure everything is built correctly. It is important I follow the standards mentioned before so that my work is ethical.

The IET’s Proffesionalism and Ethics in Engineering guide shows that engineers should only work on projects they are qualified for. This means that if you can’t do a specific task, tyhe safest way to tackle this is for someone else to do it. I want our team to work carefully and correctly so that the micromouse is built to the best standard we can give and there are no mistakes in the process. It is important that we all respect and understand eachother, this ensures good communication and a fair working environment. When we have issues, we fix it together, we share ideas and help eachother.

The MFS Engineering websites suggests that engineers should put public safety and sustainability first. They also explain that responsible choices should be made so that no one compromises safety. Engineers have the responsibility to support environmentally friendly solutions and to avoid conflict of interests. This will help keep a high standard in the engineering community and the future generations to come.

After researching ethics in engineering, I will follow these principles to make sure my work, while building the micromouse, is professional and safe. Although engineering is about creating important projects, while doing this you are working responsibly and respectfully. In our team, I will help my team create a fully functioning micromouse while maintaining these ethical standards that are expected from engineers.
