Personal Statement of Commitment to Ethical Principles

I am an electrical engineering student who respects and accepts the ethics and standards set by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and I acknowledge the importance of ethical principles in guiding me both now and in my future career. The Statement of Ethical Principles issued by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and the Engineering Council (EC) explains the essential set of rules that every engineer must follow to uphold professionalism in society.

This principle explains the importance of transparency, misunderstanding, and worse behavior. As an engineering student, I will hold on to keeping my academic honesty by making sure that my coursework and assignments are the reflections of my own. I will also make sure to cite properly to give credit to the source. Even in the future, I will maintain my professional behavior and integrity in my work by following regulations and protocols, keeping a non-conflict environment, and maintaining an ethical work culture throughout my career.

The IET’s Professional Ethics webpage provides important guidance on making decisions ethically and professionally. The IET’s Rules of Conduct explain the importance of honesty, integrity, and responsibility in engineering practice. By following these guidelines, I can promise that I can professionally lead my career by following these ethical principles.

I have found an additional source useful, the Engineering Ethics Toolkit, which was developed by the Engineering Professors’ Council. The source had several case studies that would help aspiring engineering students like me in handling real-world problems. This could be a valuable resource for engineers as it provides many practical insights.

By following the ethical guidance provided by the RAE, EC, and IET, I promise to uphold high ethical standards in my academic journey and future career as well.
