Adams response to ethics of autonomous vehicles

Ethical considerations in the development of autonomous vehicles are crucial, especially when faced with potential flaws the could endanger lives. Our responsibilities are guided by the IET’s rule of conduct and its stance on whistleblowing. The IET promotes and encourages ethical behaviour in engineering. Each individual team member is responsible for our professional and personal decisions and actions. As a team its important to balance conflicting interests (employers, society and environment) and it should always be attempted to follow the most ethical stance. Whistleblowing is a protected disclosure where a team member raises a concern about danger, risk malpractice or wrongdoing, it should be done in the public interest. As a team of ethical engineers safety and societal well-being would be prioritized over organization interests even if whistleblowing may harm relationships withing the company.
