Boyang’s view on Engineering in society

After reading the statement of ethical principles that was created jointly by the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Engineering Council. As an engineering student, I have a deeper understanding of these ethical principles. I recognize its importance, and I will strictly abide by the code of conduct.

The first basic principle: Honesty and integrity. I understand that it is essential for engineering professionals to hold themselves to high standards, such as openness, fairness, honesty and integrity. Only by ensuring our own reliability that we can have adequate safety and quality assurance. So I strictly require myself to contribute to the team. And we should also respect others and abide by our own principles.

The second basic principle: Respect for life, law, the environment and public good. As engineering professionals, we not only complete engineering projects, we also need to be responsible for protecting the environment and life safety, and strictly abide by the law. As engineering professionals, we not only complete engineering projects, but we also need to be responsible for protecting the environment and life safety, and strictly abide by the law. I also learned that we need to focus on the safety and interests of others.

The third basic principle: Accuracy and rigour. In the professional field, we should not only constantly pursue accuracy, but also continuously improve and update our knowledge and skills. At work, maintaining high standards of professional operations and decision-making processes is our fundamental responsibility. On the basis of completing my own tasks, I try to provide help or advice to others.

The last basic principle: Leadership and communication. It is necessary for engineering professionals to make efficient communication. And the leader is ought to have the ability of leading others. As a researcher of our team, I think that our team leader have enough leadership. He can guide us very well in completing the project. We also must implement the ideas of promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

In addition to reading the Ethical Principles issued. I also refer to the RAE/EC Ethical Principles and the guidance issued by the IET. I learned that we cannot do special tasks beyond our own capabilities. We only need to work on the projects we are good at. According to Rules of Conduct 23, we should raise public awareness and understanding of the impact and benefits of engineering and technology achievements. So we made a presentation to introduce our micromouse.

NATIONAL ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING(https://www.nae.edu/) I have visited this website, which conducts research on important issues in engineering practice and education, focusing on ethical issues and social impacts in engineering practice. It plays an important role in research in the field of engineering.
