In November we successfully designed and printed our PCB for the IR circuit therefore the key task for December was constructing and testing the IR circuit. I began by drilling out the PCB in order for the components to be mounted ad soldered in place. When soldering the components onto the PCB we encountered an issue with the solder not properly adhering to the conductor on the PCB. It is likely that this issue was caused by not rubbing the protective film off thoroughly enough before beginning the soldering, in future this is a task I will spend more time on. Additionally while soldering I accidentally damaged one of the tracks on the PCB and therefore had to learn how to repair this by creating a bridge of solder across the damaged tract to restore continuity. Overall constructing the IR sensor on the PCB taught me a lot about soldering and practical electronics.
