Sustainability – Edward L-S

An estimate the billable time that went into the development of your mouse and the website.

The average salary for an undergraduate engineer is currently £22,543 per year. Assuming the average working week is 37.5 hours we can then calculate the average hourly rate to be £11.56. Next, we need to calculate the total number of hours dedicated to the project to begin with taking the total number of hours scheduled on the timetable multiplied by the number of members in our group. In the first term we had 55 hours of scheduled lab time, during this time we had 4 team members so we can calculate the total amount of billable hours to be 220 hours which based on the average hourly rate would be £2543.20. In the second term we had 57 hours of scheduled lab time. However, one of our members had to suspend their studies due to problems with tuition so the total amount of billable hours to be 171 hours which would equate to £1976.76. So purely based on the scheduled lab time we have the total billable cost to be £4519.96. In addition, we need to consider the additional time spent working on the project outside of scheduled lab time. I would estimate that to be approximately 30 hours in total which would be another £346.80. Bringing the total amount of billable time that went into the development of the mouse and website to be £4866.76.

A plan for maintaining the website for the duration of the assessment period.

Maintaining the website is extremely important ensuring that all the required documentation is on the website and available for marking. Throughout this project we have continuously been adding and organising the page to ensure that everything is present and nothing has been missed out, delegating the work making sure that everyone is contributing to the success of the project. We had a focus on making sure that throughout the project we were taking photos of our progress and writing our monthly blogs to be sure that all the information can be fresh in our mind when it comes to writing up all the documentation. We have used WhatsApp to keep in contact with each other so we can continue working despite completing the construction and competition of the micro-mouse, that has been extremely useful and making sure that everyone has remembered to do their monthly blogs as well.
