As we enter the era of autonomous vehicle, the intersection of technology, morality and regulation makes the field of driverless driving more and more complex. In order to respond to the directive that the ethics and regulatory framework related to the design of risk assessment driverless vehicles provide suggestions to the management, I conducted an in-depth study of BSI 8611: Code of Ethics for Robots and Robotic Devices and the legal association’s consultation on the regulation of autonomous vehicle in various fields. In this article, I will focus on some major ethical and regulatory issues in the field of autonomous vehicle, and share my thoughts and suggestions.
First, the emergence of autonomous vehicle may need to re-examine the existing legal liability and insurance system. The division of responsibilities for accidents needs to be emphasized and clarified, and regulatory agencies need to develop clearer regulations to ensure a reasonable division of responsibilities. Secondly, in order to ensure the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicle, regulators also need uniform technical standards and certification procedures. BSI 8611 provides ethical guidelines for robots and robotic devices, which can serve as a reference for developing standards for autonomous driving technology. At the same time, legal consultations can also provide necessary advice to regulatory agencies. In addition, the popularity of autonomous vehicle may have a significant impact on road rules and traffic control. It is also necessary for regulators to adjust and redefine laws and regulations in time to adapt to the development of autonomous driving technology.
In summary, engineers in this field in the future should not only focus on technological innovation and product performance, but also always remember social responsibility and ethical obligations. When developing autonomous vehicle, we must actively respond to various ethical and regulatory challenges to ensure that our technology can bring real value to society. Only under the premise of attaching equal importance to morality and technology can autonomous vehicle realize their potential and become an important part of future intelligent transportation.
