Ethical Principles – Gang Chen

I promise to adhere to these ethical principles both as a student member of the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) and in my future efforts as a professional engineer. Integrity, honesty, and respect for the rights and dignity of others will be of utmost importance in my decision-making process. Whether dealing with complex technological challenges or collaborating in interdisciplinary teams, I am committed to adhering to the highest ethical standards.

As a student working in the electronics industry, I firmly believe that ethical principles are the cornerstone of our profession. The Statement of Ethical Principles jointly issued by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and the Engineering Commission (EC) outlines the path towards responsible and diligent engineering practices. In pursuing this goal, I not only drew on the RAE/EC ethical principles, but also drew on the valuable guidance provided by IET on its professional ethics website. These resources provide a comprehensive framework that helps to navigate the ethical field of engineering. By incorporating these guidelines into my future career identity, my goal is to cultivate a culture of moral awareness and responsibility in the engineering industry, and achieve certain results. During my time studying in this industry, I found the IEEE Global Ethics Initiative for Autonomous and Intelligent Systems to be particularly inspiring. This program provides abundant resources, including articles, webinars, and case studies, delving into ethical considerations surrounding emerging technologies. I chose this resource because it provides practical insights into the ethical dilemmas brought about by rapidly developing fields such as artificial intelligence and robotics, and helps to develop my own comprehensive understanding of engineering theory.

In summary, through this section of learning, I have gained an understanding of the employment experiences and challenges faced by different engineers, which has provided me with valuable experience on the practical application of ethical principles
